Safflower Seed Oil Mill Plant Process
A safflower seed oil extraction plant involves the following steps: seed cleaning, Seed conditioning, Oil extraction, Oil Clarification & filtration and crude oil refining.
Seed Cleaner
Before oil extraction, safflower seeds are passed through a Double Deck Vibratory Seed Cleaner to remove dust, stones, metals, chaff, and other foreign impurities.
Proper seed cleaning not only protects downstream equipment such as oil expellers but also enhances oil yield and quality by eliminating contaminants that can interfere with the extraction process.
Safflower Seed Oil Extraction
Once the safflower seed are cleaned, the seeds are transferred into the kettle / cooker of the Oil Expeller / Oil Press Machine. In kettle / cooker, the seeds are conditioned using steam, which raises the temperature to around 70–80°C. This conditioning process softens the seed structure, reduces oil viscosity and improves oil extraction efficiency.
Safflower seeds usually contain around 35–40% oil. To maximize oil yield, a 2 stage pressing system is often used in medium to large scale safflower oil mills.
In the first pressing, approximately 20–25% oil is extracted. The resulting oilcake, which still contains about 18–20% residual oil, is then fed into the second pressing. This secondary pressing yields an additional 10–13% oil, leaving behind a final oilcake with 8–10% residual oil.
The final oilcake is used as animal feed due to its high protein and fiber content.
Oil Clarification
Crude oil from the press contains suspended solids known as foots. To remove these coarse impurities, the oil is first passed through a Vibro Separator or Screening Tank. This pre-cleaning step helps reduce the load on the filtration system and improves overall efficiency.
Oil Filtration
After clarification, the pre-cleaned oil is passed through an Oil Filter Press which removes fine particles and ensures the oil is clear and free from impurities. The filtered oil is then suitable for storage or further refining.
Steam Boiler
The steam boiler is a vital component of the Safflower Oil Extraction plant, used to generate steam for conditioning operation. It provides consistent and controlled steam supply to equipment such as kettle / cooker improving oil extraction efficiency.
Available in Agro-waste, coal, diesel or gas, our steam boilers are designed for high thermal efficiency, safety and easy maintenance. Capacities are selected based on plant size and process requirements.
Bucket Elevator
Bucket Elevators are used for vertical lifting of dry materials such as safflower seeds and safflower pressed cake. It features buckets mounted on a belt or chain within a covered casing, ensuring dust-free, efficient and gentle handling between processing stages.

Screw Conveyor
Screw conveyors are used for the efficient transfer of materials such as safflower seeds, pressed cake, and crude oil with foots. The U-trough type is suited for dry materials, while the pipe-type is preferred for enclosed, inclined or semi-liquid transfer, ensuring spillage-free and dust-free operation. Both types ensure reliable and controlled movement between processing stages.

Control Panel
