At the copra oil mill plant, the copra undergoes the following steps: Copra Drying, Copra Cutting, Cooking, Pressing, Filtration, Oil storage, and Filling.

Bucket Elevator

Bucket elevator is used to transport bulk materials vertically of mill equipment.The working efficiency depends on three basic factors such as design, capacity and speed.

Screw Conveyor

The screw conveyor is used to convey the small copra pieces to the hopper of the oil expelling machines. It has a special anti-dust design to protect the material from dust. Screw conveyor provides a smooth positive momentum for the material because it rotates vice versa inside the trough.

Boiler

Boiler are generally used to provide heats/steam to the copra dryer and cooking kettle through a pipe line system. During the process, steam pressure is controlled and regulated with the help of steam pressure gauges.

Copra Drying

The Copra dryer was designed to dry fresh coconut kernel from 35 – 40% moisture content to 5 – 7%. Using hot air, the drying temperature should be maintained 35°C to 50°C for 6 hours to dry copra until a final moisture content of 5 – 7% reached.

Copra Cutting

Copra cutter is helpful in cutting large copra pieces into smaller pieces. These cutting machine has sharp round blade which makes cutting easier and faster.

Cooking

The smaller pieces of copra are put to the Cooker / Kettle of the oil press machine where the copra pieces are cooked in the temperature of 70°C – 75°C.

Pressing

After cooking, the cooked material is constantly fed in copra oil expeller machines and pressed twice. The copra contains 55 – 60% oil content. In the first pressing of copra 40 % – 45 % oil will be extracted and the copra oilcake is send for second pressing to extract the oil, from 10 – 12 % will be recovered, leaving 8 to 9% oil in the cake which will be used for animal feed / meal.

Filtration

In the filter press machine has a fine-mesh filtering fabric which helps to remove the foots from the crude oil. Oil under pressure passes through perforated cloth, gets out from the faucet beneath the filtrating cloth.
