Rice Bran Oil Refinery Plant Process
We are engaged in manufacturing and exporting Rice Bran Oil Refinery Plant with our manufacturing facilities in Ludhiana ( Punjab ), India.
Rice is a stable food with production quantity of 500 to 800 million tons annually and is widely used all over the world. During the milling of Paddy to produce white rice one fine layer present between the hulls and on the surface of the rice called bran.
Rice bran produced during milling of the paddy which is equal to 8 to 10% of the rice. The rice bran is rich in oil contains 18% to 22% based on the milling process and rich in lipase enzyme as well.
This lipase reacts with Oil within the rice bran and liberates Free fatty acids at faster rate. The Rice Bran Oil extracted through solvent extraction process using Hexane as solvent and required to refine after the extraction as to remove a minor quantity of unwanted ingredients that affect the quality and flavor during the frying process.
Like all other soft oil Rice Bran oil is refined through the physical refining process due to its high FFA content at the same time to retain Orizinol which is the ingredient supports the health the of heart.

The Stages Involved in Rice Bran Oil Refinery Plant.
Degumming
Rice Bran oil contain phosphatides like other oils 1.5% max. This will be removed through the standard degumming process by addition 2% water and 1kg to 1.5Kg of food grade phosphoric acid to the oil at 60°C and allowing to mix for 20 minutes and then by separating through the centrifugal separators. The heavy phase gums will be transferred to gums tank and light phase of degummed oil will be transferred to carry out next stage of operation.
Water Washing
Due to addition of Phosphoric acid and no further neutralization is used for this oil as it goes for physical refining process. The excess phosphoric acid will be water washed by mixing hot water upto 5% with oil at 80 to 85°C and mixed thoroughly and then separated through the centrifugal separators. The heavy phase water and oil will be separated at this stage.
Vacuum Drying
The Oil after water washing contains minute traces of moisture in the oil. This required to be dried to avoid further un wanted reactions before sending next stage of process. The oil is heated upto 90 to 100°C and flashed under vacuum of 650 – 700 mm vacuum. The dried oil contains less than 0.1% Moisture will be taken to next stage of process.

Bleaching
This is one the important stage in total refining process. Where the oil is heated to 100 to 105°C and mixed with Bleaching earth chemical (Acid activated clay) and also activated carbon in a vessel under vacuum at 70 mm hg where the stirring continues for specific designated time and then filtered the oil to remove the clay and carbon. At this stage the color pigments, and phosphatides will be eliminated and the oil will be bleached and color reduction takes place. The filtered oil again send through the polish filters to obtain clear bleached oil.

Dewaxing
One of the factors of Rice Bran oil affecting its appearance due properties of wax. Rice Bran oil contains 2.5% wax. This wax give haziness to the oil after refining. Hence it becomes necessary to remove the wax to avoid haziness of the oil and also stickiness of the Oil. The Oil at first stage will be cooled to 40deg c and feed to the crystalizers and then further cooled to 6 to 9°C based on the requirement and weather temperature of the location with chilled water. After cooling for 6 to 8 hours in some cases upto 16 hours to get the maturation of the Oil. The Oil then further filtered through Horizontal pressure leaf filters with pre coat system and the filtered oil is free from wax. This oil further processed to deodorization and de acidification.

Deodorisation and Deacidification
This is the final step in refining process. The edible oils and fats retain undesirable odor and flavor after refining and bleaching. These constituents are eliminated at this stage. Deodorization is basically a vacuum-steam distillation process operated at elevated temperatures to remove FFA and other volatile odoriferous components that cause the undesirable flavors and odors. Additional deodorization benefits include heat bleaching to destroy carotenoid pigments, pesticide removal, and cyclopropenoid fatty acid reduction to a negligible level, all of which ensure oil purity. Deodorization is the last major processing step where flavor, odor, and many of the other qualities of an edible fat and oil product can be controlled. The deodorization will be operated at 250°C under 2 torr absolute vacuum to attain the results. Especially for Rice Bran Oil, the de acidification will be carried out through the stripping column to remove high FFA and further deodorized. The deodorized oil at high temperature will be used to exchange the heat energy with incoming oil to the system and further cooled to 45°C and allowed to pass through the polish filters and send to the Final refined oil storage tank.
